Manchester United are plotting a shock move for Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland.

Real Madrid’s pending transfer ban has cast doubt on the Spanish giants’ long-term interest in United's current No 1 David De Gea.

Nevertheless, United are keeping tabs on a host of goalkeepers ahead of any possible departure for their Spanish star.

 

And Butland is understood to be a prominent name on the Old Trafford club’s potential list of replacements for De Gea.

The former Birmingham man has been in sensational form this season; virtually guaranteeing his place in England’s Euro 2016 squad as Joe Hart’s understudy.

And his performances have not gone unnoticed by United as they consider a contingency plan for De Gea’s possible exit.
